A demo showcasing a psychedelic visual effect filter I created in After Effects. I liked the way rainbow accents looked over old black & white footage, but animating this by hand was tedious. I created this effect as a way to achieve a similar look automatically. Because brightness values are normalized, any video source can be plugged in. It works by cycling through luminance values to create a shifting alpha mask (allowing it to “follow” on-screen objects). While it has per-frame smoothing, it’s currently very jittery over time—I may add temporal smoothing in the future to correct for this.
